IBOM ANGELS 1-1 RIVERS ANGELS | MATCH REPORT

RIVERS ANGELS HELD AT IBOM ANGELS

Bessy Obot salvaged a point for Ibom Angels against high-flying Rivers Angels at the Uyo Township Stadium on Sunday.

The powerful forward scored from the spot after a hand ball incident
led to a penalty.

The visitors went into the game as table-toppers, and needed a win to be sure of keeping their place. A loss would have sent Ibom to the top of the NWPL, while a draw would have only be enough Pelicans lost at Confluence Queens.

At the end, Confluence Queens defeated their visitors. So, a draw, which they managed to get, turned out to be enough.

The hosts- who were largely outplayed in the middle by the Port Harcourt side- on the other hand, needed a win to climb above their neighbors.

Asisat Oshoala put Rivers Angels in front just before half -time. Chichi
spilled a Mary Ologbosore miscued clearance, and Oshoala was on hand to tap in the rebound.

Three minutes after the re-start, Oshoala went close to scoring her
second, but was denied by Chichi, who came off her goal line to save
with her thigh.

At the other end, Obot was barely allowed to breathe, but she still
managed to make the best attempt of the half, which goalkeeper Charity John unbelieveably parried wide for a corner.

Barely a minute later, the Uyo side’s leading goalscorer put Angels on level terms. It came from the spot following a handball incident.

The game became more intense with Mabel Effiom providing what Ibom Angels lacked in Blessing Affangedeh, whom she replaced just after the hour mark. Her impact was instant. The diminutive play-maker caused the
visitors a lot of trouble and earned her side several freekicks.

Midway into the half, the referee turned down a strong penalty appeal after Obot was brought down inside the box.

In the closing stages, Rivers Angels pushed more players forward, but
the winner never came. They twice went close, though, through an Onyiyechi Ohadugha shot, which was deflected wide and an Oshoala effort that forced Chichi into a save.
