AFRICAN FOOTBALLER OF THE YEAR 2017: VICTOR MOSES MAKES 30-MAN SHORTLIST

Victor Moses and William Troost- Ekong have been named on the 30-man shortlist for this year’s African Footballer of the Year Award.

The Nigerian duo find themselves in the running for the award, along with

Cameroon’s Vincent Aboubacar, Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Senegal’s Sadio Mane and Egypt’s Mohammed Salah.

Current winner Riyad Mahrez misses out after failing to replicate the form that helped fire Leicester City to a league win two seasons ago.

Cameroon – winners of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations – account for more nominees (3) than any other country, with Vincent Aboubacar, Christian Bassogog and Fabrice Ondoa making the cut. Tunisia, Cote D’Ivoire, Mali, Ghana, Egypt, DR Congo, Morocco, Nigeria and Senegal have two nominees apiece.

Of the 30, only four ply their trade in Africa; 22 play in Europe, while the rest feature for Asian clubs.

Victor Moses is one of the favourites for the award after helping Chelsea win the Premier League and Nigeria, qualify for next year’s World Cup.

The winner of the award will be announced at an Awards ceremony on Thursday, 4th January 2018 in Accra.

It will be decided by votes from the Head Coaches/Technical Directors of the National Associations affiliated to CAF, members of the CAF Technical and Development Committee and a panel of Media Experts.
