Delta Queens leapfrogged Bayelsa Queens into top spot in Group A of the Nigeria Women Football League table after beating the Yenegoa side 1-0.
The two sides as well as Ibom Angels went into Wednesday’s matchday six level on points and goal difference but Bayelsa led the table, having scored more.
Ikehua Brume’s early strike earned the Asaba ladies victory over their rivals, who now place fourth following Rivers United’s humiliation of Heartland Queens and Ibom Angels’ hard-fought 1-0 win against Confluence Queens in a game overshadowed by refereeing blunders.
Ibe Abidemi sent a long ball forward, Precious Christopher sprinted behind the Confluence defence, flicked the ball past the outrushing Monle Omini, Emem Essien latched onto the ball as it rolled towards the byline and Christopher, who had not stopped running, picked up the ball from the diminutive forward before slotting in.
The hosts were later denied a second. The referee and her assistant failed to spot that Blessing Okpe’s volley had crossed the goal line.
Replays and images confirmed that the ball had indeed crossed the line before it was cleared•
