Nigeria international Henry Onyekuru failed to get on the scoresheet on his Süper Lig debut, as Galatasaray defeated Ankaragücü 3-1 Osmanli Stadium on Friday to claim all three points.
The Yellow-reds cancelled out Moestafa El Kabir’s seventh-minute opener through Serdar Aziz, before a Bakary Kone own goal and Eren Derdiyok stoppage-time strike ensured the Istanbul club kicked off their 2018-19 campaign on a winning note.
Onyekuru — a loan signing from Everton — was on the pitch for 84 minutes. His compatriots — Lanre Kehinde and Nduka Ozokwo, a former Nigeria U20 international — were in Ismail Kartal’s matchday squad. The latter, though, sat out the game, while the former tasted action for 11 minutes.
Galatasaray, coached by Fatih Terim, will return home to face Göztepe on Sunday, August 19•
