Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen continued his brilliant form in front of goal, scoring in Charleroi’s Jupiler Pro League 2-1 loss at KAA Gent on Friday.
The youngster beat goalkeeper Yannick Thoelen with a long-range effort after controlling the ball past his marker — with the ball taking a slight deflection off a defender — to cancel a strike from Georgia international Giorgi Chakvetadze, who scored from close range after 37-year-old French goalkeeper Nicolas Penneteau had spilled a freekick.
Chakvetadze, 19, then scored the winner three minutes after the break, finding the left corner of the post with a first-time shot after Stallone Limbombe found him with a pass across the face of goal.
Osimhen has earned himself a first-choice status at Stade du Pays du Charleroi since his switch from Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg.
The strike on Friday night took the forward’s tally to six in all competitions — fourth in his last three games.
Osimhen’s compatriots Anderson Esiti and Taiwo Awoniyi were in action for the home team, with the former playing the entirety of the game while the latter came on in the second•
