Akwa United have released nine players, as the club aim to rebuild ahead of next season.
Former Enyimba midfielder Kelly Kester is one of the players the Nigeria Professional Premier League side have decided not to renew their contracts.
The 24-year-old joined the club at the start of the 2017-18 season, but never really impressed. Quite often, he was on the receiving end of jeers from Akwa United fans.
Adeshina Gata, Isamila Shagari, Ayobami Asekunowo, Katoh Haggai, Aminu Nuhu, Franklin Ekong, Edem Akakatang and Boniface Matthew have also been let go by the Promise Keepers at the end of their contracts.
Ekong and Akakatang are reportedly on their way to second-tier club Akwa Starlets for a second stint.
Emmanuel Ariwa has also left the club, after a five-year spell.
The Nigeria international has joined Omdurman club Al Hilal.
Meanwhile, the two-time Aiteo Cup champions are set to name a new coach on Monday, following the departure of Abdu Maikaba, who has since joined Plateau United.
“I’ve up to Friday to finally get the person that I want. By God’s grace, we’ll unveil the coach on Monday,” club chairman Paul Bassey revealed•
