Ezekiel Bassey completes move to Al Masry

Nigeria international Ezekiel Bassey has joined Egyptian club Al Masry from Akwa United.

The 22-year-old has penned a three-and-a-half-year contract with Zaeem Al Qanāh (Boss of the Canal).

Bassey first signed for Akwa United in the 2013-14 season from Akwa Starlets.

The following season, he moved to Enyimba. In his first season with the Aba outfit, he scored three goals and provided 12 assists, and was named the club’s Player of the season.

In the 2017 winter transfer deadline, Bassey moved to Barcelona B team on a six-month loan from Enyimba. The deal included an option to make the transfer permanent, but the Spanish club chose to release the winger after he failed to impress.

He then embarked on another loan move — this time, to Iranian club Paykan.

Following the expiration of the deal with Paykan, Bassey returned to Nigeria to re-sign a contact with Akwa United. He featured for the Uyo side in the second half of last season, as well as the Aiteo Cup.

After being omitted from Akwa’s opening two games of the season, the forward, 5ft 7in, was linked with a move away from the club.

And on Monday morning, Port Said-based Al Masry announced they’ve captured the Nigerian.
