Akwa United defender Matthew Etim has returned to training after missing the opening six games of the season through illness.
Sidelined by typhoid fever, the Nigeria international is yet to feature for the Uyo club this season.
However, he resumed full training with the Akwa United first team last week after making a full recovery.
The former Enugu Rangers man has been given the all-clear, but it remains to be seen if he’ll be included in the matchday squad for Monday’s visit of Kada City.
The return of the 29-year-old right-back, who recently signed a one-year contract extension at the club, is undoubtedly a huge boost, as The Promise Keepers hope to secure a third consecutive win on Monday and continue their turnaround, after a dismal start to the season.
Etboy Akpan has been handed the right wing-back role since the second game of the season.
But with Etim — who was first in the pecking order regarding that position — back in the squad after recovering from illness, Akpan could lose his place.
“I’ve fully recovered, and I’m ready to fight for a place in the squad,” Etim told 234football•
