Taiwo Awoniyi scored the only goal in Royal Excel Mouscron’s win against Sporting Lokeren at Stade Le Cannonier on Saturday.
The former Nigeria U23 international, who is reportedly in coach Gernot Rohr’s Africa Cup of Nations plans, netted on 52 minutes to help secure Les Hurlus a sixth consecutive win — and maintain their 100 percent record in the Jupiler Pro League in 2019.
Awoniyi had a frustrating first half of the 2018-19 season while on loan at KAA Gent, failing to find the back of the net in 16 league games.
In January, the on-loan Liverpool striker, 21, cut short the loan deal to rejoin Mouscron, having joined them on loan in 2017.
Since making the move to Bernd Stork’s side, the forward has rediscovered his goalscoring form, and has netted five goals in six games.
The forward hit the roof of the near post after Sidney Friede’s miscued effort fell to him. He was replaced by Frandtzy Pierrot in the 84th minute.
The goal took the 2013 FIFA Under-17 World Cup winner’s tally to five in six appearances since joining the Belgium Gunners last month — which means he’s just two goals away from equalling his Jupiler Pro League record during his first loan spell at the club.
During his six-month stay with Gent, Awoniyi netted three times — a brace against First Amateur Division club, Royal Excelsior Virton in the Belgium Cup round of 32 and a goal against Polish club, Jagiellonia Bialystok in the 2018-19 UEFA Europa League third qualifying round.
