Nigerian players abroad: Awoniyi continues scoring streak as nine-man Royal Mouscron and St. Truiden share spoils, Osimhen nets 11th league goal of the season

Taiwo Awoniyi extended his scoring run to five games, netting in the 33rd minute to rescue a point for Royal Mouscron against St Truiden on Sunday.

The 21-year-old, a surprise omission from Nigeria’s 23-man squad for the upcoming matches against Seychelles and Egypt, scored his seventh goal in eight Jupiler Pro League games.

Japanese forward Daichi Kamada put the visitors in front after 15 minutes, but Awoniyi – who has reportedly attracted interest from a number of European clubs, including Galatasaray – scored off a Manuel Benson assist to ensure a share of the spoils.

The Hurlus finished the game with nine men following the dismissals of Nikola Gulan and Frank Boya.

Awoniyi was on the pitch for 75 minutes.

Elsewhere, a Victor Osimhen penalty and Massimo Bruno’s second-half strike earned Charleroi a 2-1 win at Royal Antwerp.

Osimhen, who could make a big move next summer, took his league goals tally to 11 for the season.
