Semi Ajayi scored his sixth goal in five games for Rotherham, but could not save the Millers from a 2-1 loss to table-topping Norwich City.
The Nigeria international netted his seventh goal in 38 Championship games to cancel out Kenny McLean’s opener, but Ben Godfrey’s header handed the visitors all three points.
The visitors took the lead at the end of the first half. Teemu Pukki lifted into the path of McLean, who chested down before cleverly tucking past Marek Rodak.
Rotherham levelled seven minutes after the break through Ajayi. The 26-year-old received a pass with his back to goal, spun his marker before finding the far post from the edge of the box.
McLean then turned provider, picking out Godfrey with a cornerkick, with the English defender heading past Rodak.
The result leaves Paul Warne’s side third from bottom — a point behind fourth-from-bottom Reading, who played out a goalless draw against Stoke City.
Nigeria international Oghenekaro Etebo made a return to the Stoke lineup after recovering from injury. The midfielder received a booking for a foul.
Elsewhere, Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel was on for the full 90 minutes in Middlesbrough’s 3-0 loss at Aston Villa.
