Oghenekaro Etebo’s solitary strike proved to be the difference on Saturday, as Stoke City ran out 1-0 winners over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
The Potters, having not scored since the 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest on March 2 — a game Etebo scored his first Stoke City goal — were hoping to silence their critics.
They did eventually find the back of the net, and the goal came early: Etebo fired in from the edge of the box off Tom Ince’s cutback just before the quarter-hour mark, giving David Raya no chance.
Rovers found life tough against a resolute Stoke backline, who kept their sixth consecutive clean sheet with the result.
Nathan Jones’ side later had two big chances to increase their lead, but were denied by Raya.
The Spaniard saved a penalty on the stroke of halftime, and kept out Sam Vokes’ second-half effort.
The result means Stoke have now gone 586 minutes without conceding a goal.
The last time the Staffordshire side conceded a goal was in the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa on February 23.
