Super Eagles watch: Etebo bags assist as Stoke City suffer first defeat in 10 games

Oghenekaro Etebo’s Stoke City conceded a goal for the first time in seven English Championship games, as the Potters lost 3-1 at Swansea on Tuesday.

The Nigeria midfielder set up James McClean to score his side’s only goal of the game.

Prior to their visit to the Liberty Stadium, Nathan Jones’ side had not conceded a goal since the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa on February 23, and they had not lost a game since February 9.

James McClean cut one back with a long-range strike off an assist from Etebo on the stroke of half time.

But Stoke — who went into the match on a nine-match unbeaten run — left themselves with a mountain to climb after Bruno Martins Indi and Tom Edwards both received their marching orders in quick succession early in the second half.

And after a somewhat nervy spell late on, Oliver McBurnie headed in to put the game beyond the visitors and preserve the Swans unbeaten run in the league in 2019.

Elsewhere, Middlesbrough recorded a 2-0 win at Bolton Wanderers.

Etebo’s international team-mate John Obi Mikel played the entirety of the game.
