Ogu announces Be’er Sheva exit

John Ogu has announced that he will be leaving Israeli club Hapoel Be’er Sheva at the end of the season.

The 30-year-old joined Sheva from Portuguese club Academica.

After a five-year stint, which has seen him lift three Israeli league titles, Ogu has decided to move to another club.

“After 5 years here in Hapoel Beer sheva, I have decided I won’t be continuing my career here. All I just want to say is, thank you to everyone that made it possible for me to be here. Thank you for the memories and support. And to the fans, I specially say a Big Thank you,” the Nigeria international wrote on Twitter.

Ogu reportedly turned down an offer of contract extension from the club in January amid interest from clubs in Turkey and the Middle East.

The midfielder, who turns 31 on Saturday, has not revealed his next destination, but sources in Turkey suggest he’s set to reunite with former Sheva team-mate Anthony Nwakaeme at Trabzonspror.
